Event Points are fully customizable. 

Most clubs are likely to use a point system similar to the one displayed: X number of points for 1st place, X number of points between ranks, and for those who fish but catch nothing, either a minimum number of points or X number of points below the lowest place finisher who caught a fish.

In this case, the club also awards 1 point for the first place finisher.
